Two Dead, One Injured, After Crash on U.S. 20 in LaPorte County

Two people are dead and one person was hurt, after a crash Friday night on U.S. 20 in LaPorte County. The LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office says it happened around 7:40 p.m. near Bootjack Road, east of Rolling Prairie.

Investigators believe an eastbound Ford Mustang crossed the center line and crashed head-on into a Honda Odyssey minivan. Its driver and passenger were both killed on impact. Meanwhile, the driver of the Ford had to be extricated from the car and was airlifted to South Bend Memorial Hospital. The victims’ names have not yet been released.

Police say they haven’t determined the cause of the crash yet, but they are suspecting alcohol was involved. The crash had U.S. 20 closed for nearly three hours Friday night.

The LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the New Carlisle Police Department, LaPorte County Emergency Medical Service, Indiana Department of Transportation, and Kankakee Township Volunteer Fire Department.
