The Knox City Council members received a few updates about the Nancy J. Dembowski Community Center renovation project when they met last week.
Clerk-Treasurer Jeff Houston informed council members that work on the roof is complete and the satellite was reinstalled. Mayor Dennis Estok went onto say they received the estimate for the flooring work that will be tackled in the near future.
Mayor Estok said he found the estimate of $42,426 to be very good. He shared that he actually anticipated for it to be higher, considering size of the building, the amount of work they’re looking to accomplish and the type of commercial flooring that will be utilized.
“This is for the great room, the main, the foyer, the kitchen, everything except the bathrooms.” He explained, “We did not do the bathrooms because [those are] still in pretty good shape.”
The Mayor mentioned that rather than attempting to work around various holiday parties, they are talking to contractors about starting the flooring work after the Christmas season.
This will allow the contractors to have enough time to accomplish the job in a timely manner rather than having to pack up equipment every time an event is scheduled. Estok added that the contractors indicated that if they were given the time and space, the work could be completed in about a week to a week and a half, at the latest.
