New Health Insurance Option Available to North Judson Town Council

Annually, the North Judson Town Council is required to review their health insurance plan. On Monday, they received a report from their insurance broker John Howard with the Wealth Care Group.

Howard explained that for the first time this year, the council has the ability to pick up to three plans that employees can then personally choose from. No formal decisions were made about which plan to choose.

However, council members did approve Town Attorney Justin Schramm’s request to be added to the town’s insurance in lieu of receiving his retainer. Schramm said that his retainer was increased from $5,000 to $7,000 recently so in order to save the town money, he proposed being added to the insurance rather than receiving the retainer.

Council member Josh Brown asked whether or not council members could forgo their compensation in order to be added to the insurance. Schramm mentioned that he has seen larger municipalities do such a thing without having to give up their salary. He said it could be a possibility available to North Judson Town Council members. Clerk-Treasurer Andrew Rowe was asked to look into the matter more before the next town council meeting.

Council President Wendy Hoppe said the council will reflect on the packet provided by Howard and share their decision at their meeting on Monday, November 20th.
