Oregon-Davis School Board Decides to Move Ahead with Property Tax Referendum

Residents of Oregon and Davis townships will soon be asked to consider a tax increase to fund school operations. The Oregon-Davis School Board decided Monday to place a property tax referendum on the May 8 ballot.

If approved, the measure would add a tax of up to 29 cents per $100 of assessed valuation for an eight-year period. It would replace a 19-cent tax that’s set to expire in 2019. The revenue generated by the tax would go toward educational and operational expenses, like teacher salaries.

Superintendent Dr. Don Harman said in a press release Monday that he and the school board appreciate the input that has been offered by the community. He said that’s demonstrated the need for the school corporation to look at all areas of school operations for potential cost-saving measures. Harman said that evaluating cost-saving opportunities, combined with the 29-cent tax, would allow Oregon-Davis to continue providing the standards of excellence valued by the community.
