Planning Continues for Knox High School Roof Replacement

Preparations continue for the replacement of the roof at Knox High School. Superintendent Dr. William Reichhart told the school board Monday that some preliminary information has been gathered, ahead of a planned bond issue next month. “They’ve looked at the roof,” he said, “and actually, it’s been been bid out with a couple roofing firms, just so we could get some firm numbers, as to what it would cost.”

He said they hope to replace the curbing and HVAC units that sit on top of the roof, as part of the project. “When we get done with the project, there will be nothing that we have to tough on that high school roof for the next 15, 20 years, is the goal of this.”

Reichhart will have more detailed plans for the school board on January 2. “I will be presenting to you the scope of work at the January board meeting for your review and for your approval, hopefully,” he said. “And then the January 15 meeting, we will actually conduct a hearing for the public, if they want to voice their concerns, as well, and then we’ll get the ball rolling with some of the work that we need to do in the district.”

To keep the process moving forward, the school board authorized the corporation to receive financial information about the project and also to publish notice of the January 15 hearing.
