Pulaski County Building Inspector Finalizing Paperwork on Medaryville Blight Elimination Project

The Pulaski County Building Department is wrapping up its Medaryville blight elimination project. Building Inspector Doug Hoover told the county commissioners Monday that the blighted home has been torn down. “They have got it all cleaned up and all the debris taken away,” he said. “They sort of seeded it and put some straw on it, but they got in too late, of course, and they did not get a hydroseed. They’re going to do that in the spring, and Blight understands that.”

The cost of the demolition is set to be covered by a blight elimination grant from the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority. Hoover said all the paperwork had to be turned in by today. “I have submitted everything that I know of,” he said. “I am on the phone two or three times a day. I’m on the email. They must hate me because I am not giving up.”

Hoover previously raised concerns about an additional charge of $1,800 for asbestos handling. But he says that cost should be covered by the state. “Now I talked to Blight, and they said that’s not unusual. Usually, that is if they need it, if they do find it. But Blight will pay for that.”

He told the commissioners that the demolition contractor, Freedom First Excavating and Demolition of Kokomo, will have to give all the documents to state officials, to include in their audit of the project.
