Two Pulaski County roads are set to be resurfaced with money from the 2017 Community Crossings grant. The county commissioners Monday approved a contract with Central Paving of Logansport for nearly $1.2 million worth of road work. Seventy-five percent of that cost would be covered by the state grant funding.
According to a grant agreement that was also approved by the commissioners Monday, the work will take place on County Road 200 South from U.S. 421 to State Road 39 and County Road 400 East from 200 North to 400 North.
Highway Superintendent Terry Ruff expects the paving to be done in the spring of 2018. “Hopefully, we’ll be doing this in April or May,” he said. “The plan is, as early as they can get started on it, they’ll get it out of the way this spring.”
After Monday’s meeting, questions were raised about whether the project was formally advertised for bid, and if that was required in this case. The specific locations of the planned work were not released publicly prior to Monday’s action.
Highway Department officials said the process followed the guidelines set forth by the Indiana Department of Transportation, and multiple quotes were received. However, the commissioners felt it might be worth having County Attorney Kevin Tankersley double check to make sure the proper procedures were followed. Tankersley was not at Monday’s meeting.
