Pulaski County Commissioners to Consider Bids for Various Projects Tonight

Pulaski County Commissioners: Mike McClure, Jerry Locke, Kenny Becker

The Pulaski County Commissioners will open bids tonight for the construction of a new courthouse elevator. Plans call for the current elevator to be demolished and replaced with a larger one that can more easily fit people using wheelchairs.

Also during tonight’s meeting, the commissioners are expected to choose a contractor to rehabilitate the bridge on County Road 700 North over Bogus Run. Four bids were received, ranging from just under $480,000 to over $718,000.

Meanwhile, the commissioners are also considering renewing the county’s reassessment contract. The only bid came from the company the county currently uses, for a cost of just under $105,000 a year for four years.

Assessor Holly VanDerAa told the commissioners last month that while Pulaski County doesn’t have to hire an outside company to do the work, it has proved helpful. “In the past, for years, we did it in-house,” she explained. “Well unfortunately, the state is putting more stipulations on the requirements that we have to have to be able to supposedly have the qualified people out there actually doing the work. They have the qualified people, and they have the attorneys to back up the work, if we have problems.”

Following County Attorney Kevin Tankersley’s review, the commissioners are expected to decide on the contract during tonight’s meeting. It starts at 6:00 p.m. EST at the Pulaski County Courthouse.
