Washington Township Exploring Financial Options for Fire Truck Purchase

Washington Township is looking to update its fleet of fire trucks, but some financial considerations have to be worked out before that can happen. Township Trustee Cathy Benko says the Washington Township Volunteer Fire Department is dealing with aging equipment, and she’s been looking into getting a new truck for a while now.

The challenge is that the township is still paying off the loan on an existing fire truck. Benko says she’s been looking at making arrangements to buy a new truck now but hold off on making payments until next year, after the existing debt is paid off. But so far, none of the loan offers would allow that.

Benko says township officials have agreed to the idea of getting a new truck and much of the paperwork is done. But she says the purchase is at a standstill until the financial arrangements can be made.

She says that while the fleet needs to be updated, it needs to be done within the township’s means, without increasing taxes.
