Culver Community Schools to Implement E-Learning Days in 2018-2019 School Year

Culver Community School students will be participating in e-Learning in next school year.

Superintendent Karen Shuman said that when school board members met on Monday, they approved the calendar for the 2018-2019 school year.

Shuman explained that the calendar has three E-Learning days built in, to allow students and teachers to get familiarized with the system. She added the E-Learning technology will also be used in case of inclement weather.

Changes were also made to early dismissal procedures for the 2018-2019 school year. Shuman said in the past, students have been released about 30 minutes early on Fridays. Next school year, students will be let out an hour early to allow for more professional development time for faculty.

Shuman described why the students are released early on Fridays and explained the reason for the change.

“That allowed us to us to bank for a full professional development day and we took three of those in previous calendar years.” Shuman said, “Now instead of banking time, we’re building in the professional development weekly.”

The superintendent added that the first student day on the approved calendar is August 7th, 2018 and the final student day is expected to be on May 30th, 2019.
