The Town of Hamlet is switching its trash pickup provider. The town council Wednesday approved a two-year contract with Local Affordable Disposal of Hanna.
The company will charge a monthly fee of $11.39 per home. Republic Services, the town’s current contractor, was proposing a rate of $12.50 for the next year and $12.86 the year after that.
The changeover will take place at the end of the month. Republic Services is expected to collect its garbage and recycling totes, while Local Affordable Disposal will distribute its own 96-gallon containers. Residents may also request smaller ones. Additional trash bins may be obtained for an extra $50 a year.
Starting next month, garbage will be collected each Tuesday, and recycling will be picked up every other Wednesday. Large items will be collected the first Tuesday of each month.
