Pulaski County Attorney to Research Legal Options for Regulating Wind Turbines

Concerns about new wind turbines in Pulaski County have prompted County Attorney Kevin Tankersley to learn more about the county’s legal options. In the past several months, a number of filings have been made with the Federal Aviation Administration for possible wind turbines in the Francesville and Star City areas.

Tankersley told the county commissioners Tuesday that he looked into attending a seminar on the topic. “They’ve got one specifically on wind energy projects coming into your county,” he explained. “It’s not something I would normally go to, but it’s this month. It’s $185.”

Tankersley said Pulaski County should look into writing an ordinance that regulates wind turbines, and this seminar would teach him how to do that.

Commissioner Kenny Becker felt that attending the seminar was a good idea. “It’s coming,” he said. “I’ve got people calling me about it.” Commissioners Jerry Locke and Mike McClure said they’ve also heard numerous complaints. The commissioners unanimously approved Tankersley’s conference request.
