Tourism Advertising Campaign Approved by Pulaski County Commissioners

Pulaski County will once again advertise its tourism attractions to Chicago-area television viewers. The county commissioners Tuesday approved a $26,000 tourism marketing plan, recommended by the Community Development Commission.

Nearly $20,000 of that will be spent on a TV and online advertising package with Comcast Spotlight Chicago. “It would be 4,260 commercials over the course of 16 weeks,” CDC Executive Director Nathan Origer explained. “It would start in early April, go through April, part of May, June, July, and a little bit of August. And you’ll see that we also get a digital component, so what we did last year, the online.” The ads will run on five TV channels, chosen based on viewers’ interests and demographics.

The plan also includes smaller online marketing packages with Only in Your State and Northwest Indiana Life. Both would involve content on their websites and mentions on their social media channels.

Pulaski County previously ran tourism commercials on Chicago TV in 2016, but the commissioners decided to stick to online advertising only last year. However, Origer estimates that the TV ads were much more cost-effective, when it came to drawing traffic to the county’s tourism website.

Origer also discussed the possibility of making a second commercial. The commissioners recommended featuring some other potential tourist draws that were missed the first time around, such as Northern Indiana Power from the Past.
