Hamlet Residents Reminded of Tuesday Trash Pickup

Hamlet officials are reminding residents that garbage is now being collected on Tuesday mornings. The change took effect at the beginning of this month, when the town switched from Republic Services to Local Affordable Disposal.

Town Marshal Clint Norem told the Hamlet Town Council Wednesday he’s gotten a lot of complaints about garbage cans being left in the road. “When I drove around today, I noticed a lot of people had garbage cans out because they’re used to the old day pickup,” he said. “I mean, they’ve got garbage in them, so obviously, they had their days mixed up.”

Town officials are reporting only a few minor issues with the change in garbage collection service. Town council member Connie Bailey said she’s had problems with the wheels on her trash can. “One of my wheels doesn’t have a pin in it,” she said, “and our rental property next door, when they dumped it, evidently, the wheel went with it because they cannot find the wheel anywhere.”

Clerk-Treasurer Kristina Pitts added that crews forgot to pick up garbage on Short Street during Local Affordable Disposal’s first week, but that issue was corrected last week.
