The Knox City Police Department is planning to launch a new app that allows residents to submit anonymous tips.
According to Knox City Police Chief Harold Smith, “TIP411” can be accessed through the police department’s Facebook page to be used to report non-emergency criminal activity directly to officers. Users will be issued a Tipster ID which generates a random access code. That code will be sent as the Tipster ID when sending information to the Knox City Police Department to maintain anonymity.
Smith notes that “TIP411” is not to be used to report emergencies. Emergencies or other emergent information must still be reported to 9-1-1 or the Starke County Dispatch Center.
He added that the “TIP411” app will allow officers to better engage with community members of all ages to make the City of Knox a safer city for everyone.
