The Knox Community School Corporation is looking into moving the fifth grade from the elementary school to the middle school. “There is a rumor going around that fifth grade is moving, possibly, to the middle school, and I want to say that yes, that rumor is true,” Superintendent Dr. William Reichhart told the school board Tuesday. “We have lots of rumors that go around and that one we are looking at, based upon our facilities study by Schmidt.”
The architectural firm found that there’s some extra capacity at Knox Middle School, based on how it’s currently being used.
For now, Reichhart says he’s gathering input. “I want to make sure we’ve met with the fifth grade teachers, and today, we met with any staff members at the middle school,” he said. “And on April 10 at 6:30 p.m. in the middle school cafeteria, we will hold an open meeting for all parents and community members that would like to hear why we are recommending moving the fifth grade to the middle school.”
If approved, the change would take effect at the beginning of the 2018-2019 school year.
