Those looking for work will have the chance to meet with several local employers tomorrow in Knox. WorkOne Northwest Indiana and the Starke County Economic Development Foundation are teaming up to host a job fair at the Knox High School Gym.
School Principal Dr. Elizabeth Ratliff told the school board last week that the job fair stemmed from the foundation’s Manufacturers Day event, which is held each October. “The concern came with when they do the manufacturers fair, that they actually don’t get to talk to kids who are graduating,” she explained. “So what we’ve done is set up a recruiter fair, where they will come in and visit with our seniors, local organizations, and then it will be open after school for anyone who wants to come and interview with those employers.”
Ratliff said graduating seniors from around Starke County will attend tomorrow’s event. “I know we’ve got Oregon-Davis. I think North Judson is coming. We’ve got a whole group that’ll be there,” she said. “They wanted to have access to any of those kids that are going to go down, to be able to allow them to visit with our local community and our local recruiters or our local business that actually hire people to say, ‘Here’s what you need to do at college to come get a job for us.’”
After the high school students have a chance to visit tomorrow’s job fair, it will open up to the general public from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Those taking part are asked to enter on the east end of Knox High School through doors 5 and 6. For a handicap accessible entrance, use door 4.
