Knox Mayor Dennis Estok alerted city council members that work has begun on a Community Crossings Grant project. At Tuesday night’s city council meeting, Mayor Estok explained that crews recently began removing old curbs and sidewalks on Water Street.
As a part of the project that was submitted to INDOT and subsequently approved, curbs and sidewalks will be replaced and repaving on Water Street, as well as Main Street from U.S. 35 to Mound Street, will be completed.
As previously reported, the City of Knox was awarded about $455,559 through the Community Crossings Grant Program in 2017. Mayor Estok mentioned that since the funding came later than expected, they were unable to get projects started last year. He told members to expect to see work on those projects being done this spring.
During the time set aside for council items, Councilman Jeff Berg commented on the project, “[The work on] Water Street and Main Street is going to be a great addition to the City of Knox.” He added, “It will look really fine when it’s completed. And of course, we pray for Rieth-Riley and the safety of their crews.”
Additionally, Mayor Estok mentioned that the application for the 2018 Community Crossings Grant will be due this summer. The mayor said that three priority projects have already been established and Clerk-Treasurer Jeff Houston is in the process of completing the paperwork so it can be submitted on time.
