The secure entrance and utilization of space projects were discussed by the West Central School Board last week.
Superintendent Don Street said the fencing, roofing and exterior lighting projects are behind schedule due to the weather. However, Street stressed work is picking up now that the weather is somewhat cooperating.
“Our fencing project is around our football and track and field area and that company is moving along well,” Street explained. “Our roofing project is on the auxiliary gymnasium and then they’ll move to our north lobby.”
Construction work will really pick up this summer.
“They’ll be working on our middle school hallway area and then our secure entrance and utilization of space project got started a few days of spring break. They are really moving along at the elementary school in renovating two classrooms into the office area to make a more secure entrance. Work is also being done at our high school. It’s all moving along very well.”
The board did approve a few project alternates where a portion of the $339,000 cost will be taken out of the bond money and another portion from the Rainy Day Fund.
“We are looking at replacing our heating and cooling units for the high school cafeteria as well as our high school band room area. The third alternate is to redo our north lobby restrooms. Those will be worked on during the summer during our construction project.”
The board hopes that all of the construction projects are complete before students return to school in August.
