Pulaski County Little League Plans Field Upgrades, New Scoreboard

Entrance to the Winamac Town Park

Winamac’s Little League field will soon be getting some upgrades. Waylon Burke with the Pulaski County Little League told the Winamac Park Board Monday that the league plans to hire a contractor to rehabilitate the baseball diamond. “That is all new infield, digging up home plate, digging up the pitcher’s mound, digging all the bases out, re-anchoring everything,” he said. “They bring lasers in, put it to the right height for Town & Country rules and stuff. And we are talking about doing a lot of this after the season this year, towards the middle end of the summer and seeing what fundraising we can do, to make the rest of it happen, maybe, next year or the following year.”

The work is expected to cost $14,000. Burke explained that will involve digging out the base paths, installing clay brick, putting a layer of clay over that, and then putting a top dressing of brick dust. He added that similar upgrades made a few years ago at the Town Park’s north field have made a vast improvement in how the field plays.

Burke also said the Little League field will get a new LED scoreboard, thanks to donations from the Eagles club and Kocher Farms. He said the current scoreboard will remain in place until installation is complete.

The Winamac Park Board voted to allow the Pulaski County Little League to proceed with the upgrades. Burke noted that the league was not requesting any funding from the town.
