The Starke County Commissioners considered the purchase of a Knox Box.
Maintenance Director Jim Coad explained that the device would store keys for emergency officials.
“It’s a unit that is surface-mounted on the building. It would store keys to the building so when the fire department gets called out, they’d just have to go to that box and get in, instead of waiting on me to come. It’s happened in the past. We had an incident not too long ago that happened and if that would have happened on the weekend it would have been pretty bad. Per box it costs $318,” reported Coad.
Coad said he’d be able to purchase each one out of his budget. He will purchase three for three county buildings.
Knox-Center Township Fire Chief Kenny Pfost said his department would have the keys for the Knox boxes.
The commissioners unanimously approved the purchase.
