A driver led police on a pursuit Sunday night after a Hamlet Police officer attempted a traffic stop.
According to a report from the Hamlet Police Department, Officer John Lynch saw a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on U.S. 30 and the driver was driving erratically. The driver was reportedly operating the vehicle in excess of 100 miles per hour.
The officer attempted a traffic stop, but the driver did not immediately stop, according to police. The report indicates that the officer notified the Starke County Sheriff’s Department that he was in pursuit. The La Porte County Sheriff’s Department assisted in the pursuit. Police say the pursuit ended near the La Porte County line with no injuries or damage.
There was a child in the car at the time of the alleged incident.
The driver, 21-year-old Michael Lipscomb of Merrillville, was arrested on preliminary charges of reckless driving, resisting law enforcement with a motor vehicle, and neglect of a dependent.
