The Knox Community School Corporation’s new alternative high school officially has a director and lead teacher. “Rhonda Cavinder was the person selected by the committee to assume that position,” Superintendent Dr. William Reichhart told the Knox School Board Tuesday. “In fact, she’s going to visit a program tomorrow and get some ideas and bring those back. And we’re excited, and she was crying about her new position, I believe I heard somewhere, so she’s excited.”
The school board unanimously approved the transfer of Cavinder into the new position, as part of a larger list of personnel changes.
The Redskin Academy will provide an alternative for students who’ve struggled in a traditional learning environment. It will likely involve a combination of individualized electronic learning using the Apex system, along with Knox High School’s existing vocational programs. But the alternative school is designed to be flexible, to accommodate each student’s needs.
