A heavily-used drinking fountain in the Winamac Town Park will be getting an upgrade, thanks to a memorial contribution from a local resident. Park board member Jon Chapman brought the proposal to the rest of the board members last week. “I’ve been contacted by a citizen who would like to donate a fountain like the fountain that’s found between the swinging bridge and the restrooms — it’s a stone exterior fountain — as a memorial to her son and husband,” Chapman explained.
He said the donation would cover the cost of the drinking fountain itself, while the town would be responsible for installing it. “She is okay with whatever location we choose,” Chapman explained. “I ran this suggestion by [Park Manager] Dave [DeLorenzo], and probably the most-used fountain in the park is between the two ball diamonds on the west side of the park entrance.” Chapman said the current drinking fountain will be replaced with the donated one.
Park board members agreed to accept the donation.
