A former Starke County school administrator has been selected to lead the Tri-Township Consolidated School Corporation. Kelly Shepherd was formally introduced as the corporation’s new superintendent Tuesday.
For the past two years, Shepherd has been the principal at Lincoln Elementary School in Demotte. Before that, he served as principal at North Judson-San Pierre Middle School.
In a post on LaCrosse High School’s Facebook page, Shepherd says he’s “tremendously excited about the opportunity.” He goes on to say that his lifelong passion for rural education is what drew him to Tri-Township. Over the coming months, Shepherd plans to work with students, parents, and staff to develop a vision for the corporation, based around relationship building and opportunity.
Under the terms of his contract, Shepherd will get an annual base salary of $100,000. The school board will have the option to raise his pay by up to $4,000 a year, depending on his performance evaluation. Other benefits include 21 paid vacation days, health insurance, life insurance, and a $1,500 phone and technology stipend.
Shepherd’s contract runs from July 1 of 2018 through June 30, 2021. Outgoing Superintendent Tim Somers officially steps down at the end of the month.
The Tri-Township Consolidated School Corporation consists of about 360 students at LaCrosse High School and Wanatah School.
