Mayor Dennis Estok told City Council members last Tuesday that he’s taking steps to bring the Owner Occupied Rehabilitation Grant back into Knox.
Mayor Estok explained that this specific funding assistance allows residents with lower incomes to apply to receive assistance with various home repairs. Estok said that in the past, recipients of the grant were awarded up to $15,000 in some cases.
He stated, “They could go in and get a roof, furnace, electrical or plumbing fixed and all that.” Mayor Estok went on, “It’s through the Indiana Housing Authority and they have to get it approved through the state first which should be coming and as soon as they get that done we’re going to go back to that program and reapply to help our citizens out.”
He noted that the grant was received in previous years but the city was denied back in 2016. He said that was the first time they were not awarded this funding. However, Estok mentioned that they are going through a different agency now so he hopes that will help them secure the grant assistance.
