The Medaryville Town Council approved the second and third readings of a noise ordinance. Any fees associated will be applicable once the ordinance is published.
The ordinance proclaims that it is public policy that residents are to “prohibit unreasonable, unnecessary, excessive and offensive noise from all sources subject to police power.” It shall be unlawful to operate motor vehicles, radios, televisions, digital media players, loudspeakers, sound amplifiers, musical instruments, or other machines used to produce a sound that are louder than necessary that can be heard 30 feet or more from a vehicle or structure and between the hours of 9 p.m. and 7 a.m.
When enacted, the ordinance will be enforced by the Medaryville Police Department.
A person found in violation of the ordinance will be issued a warning. If the issue is not resolved, a fine of $50 may be imposed. Subsequent violations that occur within a period of 12 months will be $100 for a second violation, $150 for a third violation, and $200 for a fourth violation. Additional violations will be $250.
