Before considering amendments to the town’s existing golf cart policy, North Judson Officials are waiting to see how Starke County’s new UTV ordinance fares in the summer season.

Clerk-Treasurer Andrew Rowe explained that there have been multiple inquiries made about the town’s golf cart policy and whether officials would be willing to add UTVs to the kinds of vehicles that would be permitted in town.

When Town Marshall Kelly Fisher initially brought up the possibility of amending the existing policy or creating a new ordinance to include other recreational vehicles, she noted that the county passed their updated UTV Ordinance in January and there haven’t been any issues reported thus far.

While that may be the case, town council members decided that they want to wait and see how the policy does now that the weather conditions will allow these types of vehicles to be on the roadways more often.

Clerk-Treasurer Rowe said that town officials are taking the matter under advisement and will continue to research the policies of other municipalities to compare and contrast possibilities to see what would work best for North Judson.
