A Beardstown homeowner will be allowed to replace an attached garage with a detached one. The Pulaski County Board of Zoning Appeals approved a special exception Tuesday for a property in the 5600 block of North U.S. 35. It will allow homeowner John Cargo to build the new garage on a half-acre site, even though the county’s Unified Development Ordinance calls for at least an acre.
The only concern brought up by the BZA was whether the new garage would be at least 75 feet from a nearby ditch. Cargo explained that it would be over 100 feet away.
In the end, the BZA found that the project met the state’s requirements for a special exception, since the new garage wouldn’t negatively impact area property values or pose a threat to public health and safety.
