Two people were injured in a three-vehicle accident at the intersection of U.S. 6 and U.S. 421 at the south junction in La Porte County Saturday morning.
La Porte County Sheriff’s Department officers say the driver of a 1998 Chevrolet pickup truck was going west on U.S. 6 when the driver reportedly disregarded the stop sign at the intersection. A 2008 Chevrolet traveling south on U.S. 421 entered the intersection and struck the other pickup, according to the report. Officers state the investigation found that the 2008 Chevrolet spun in the intersection and collided with a 2011 Harley Davidson motorcycle stopped facing east on County Road 600 South.
Police say the 70-year-old driver of the older Chevrolet pickup sustained an upper body injury and was airlifted from the scene to South Bend Memorial Hospital. A 36-year-old passenger on the motorcycle sustained a left leg injury, according to the report. She reportedly refused medical treatment at the scene.
Alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
