The budget structure for schools will change beginning in January 2019 and Superintendent Don Street said the West Central School Board members are taking steps now to make those changes.
“We’ll have an Education Fund that will be used only for expenses allocated to student instruction and learning. An Operations Fund will be used to pay non-academic expenses and it consolidates the current Transportation Fund, Bus Replacement Plan, Capital Projects Fund and General Fund operational expenses,” said Street.
At a recent conference explaining the school budgeting and financing process, Street said and board members learned an interesting statistic about West Central schools.
“West Central’s property tax for 2018 is in the lower 10 percent of Indiana school districts at 0.5682. Ninety percent of the school districts in Indiana have a property tax rate in 2018 over 0.6937. So, West Central’s property tax is definitely one of the lowest in the state based on the data provided.
The board members will continue to work on the 2019 budget in future meetings.
