Winamac Town Manager Brad Zellers assured council members on Monday that the money for this year’s fireworks display has been raised and the location has been set.
He explained that the $5,500 for the contract charge with the fireworks company was raised. He added that the display will be held on the school grounds, to the southeast of the football field near the baseball diamond.
Last year there were some issues with debris blowing into a neighboring car lot so Town Council President Tom Murray asked if they would have to cancel the event if the forecast called for an East wind. However, Zellers said if that happens they will simply hold the display the following day.
He added that the company made a request for a street closure on the day of the event.
“The fireworks place asked for that road in the back of the school there to be closed off so nobody can get through there.” Zellers explained, “So hopefully, the fire department will do that and we’ll be good.”
Zellers said he will keep in touch school officials to ensure that the corporation’s ongoing paving project will not interfere with the plans. However, he said that project seems like it will be wrapping up soon so he doesn’t expect any problems.
The event will be held in conjunction with Independence Day celebrations but Zellers did not mention a specific date for the fireworks. That will likely be announced in the near future.
