Knox School Board Updated on Facility Upgrades

The Knox Community School Corporation is making progress with its facility upgrades. High School Principal Dr. Elizabeth Ratliff told the school board Tuesday that her staff has moved back into the high school building, as interior work wraps up. She said the ceiling is in place, and attention is now turning to getting the building put back together for the start of the school year.

Above the high school, work on the middle section of the roof is taking a bit longer than expected, according to Superintendent Dr. William Reichhart. “They have had issues with guys showing up for work,” he told the school board. “They hired some local people, and the local people are the ones not showing up. They’re there one day and not the next, so it’s slowing them down. They’re expecting to have the middle section done by the middle of next week, depending on the rainfall.”

Meanwhile, crews have removed the stone from the roof above the pool and gym area. Reichhart says the replacement of that portion should go relatively quickly. He says the new HVAC units are installed, but not all of them are up and running yet.

The parking lot west of the high school has been repaved, and the resurfacing of the tennis courts should be done by Monday, according to Reichhart. “Then another crew will come in to paint the lines and do the painting of the court,” he added, “so they are expected to be done before tennis season starts.”

At Knox Middle School, Principal Jake Skelly reports that the new carpet tiles in the band hallway look great. Fifth grade teachers are moved in, and the middle school’s new master schedule is complete. Skelly says it will put seventh and eighth grade in a separate bell zone from fifth and sixth grade.
