A scheduled statewide opioid summit is expected to draw hundreds of justice leaders in all counties to help fight the opioid epidemic.
County teams attending will include judges, prosecutors, public defenders, chief probation officers, law enforcement, Department of Child Services, community leaders, and medical professionals.
Starke County Court Services Director Shawn Mattraw said eight leaders in the county will attend the “Statewide Opioid Summit: A Medication Assisted Treatment and Addictions Primer for Justice Professionals.” He noted that drug addiction is prevalent in the county and leaders should be armed with education and evidenced-based techniques to combat the epidemic.
The summit is set for Wednesday, July 25 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 pm. ET. in Indianapolis. Sessions will focus on the science of addiction and treatments for substance use disorders.
The event is sponsored by the Indiana Supreme Court, Indiana Family and Social Services Administration, Indiana University Addictions Grand Challenge and the Association of Indiana Counties.
