Two new hires were considered when Winamac Town Council members met Monday evening.
Electric Department Superintendent Doug Shorter informed the members of the council that the department recently held interviews and there were three very promising candidates.
Shorter explained, “All three were great applicants. If we would have had three spots I’d recommend hiring all three.” He continued, “It was hard to decide but I think we’ve talked it over and we would like to go with Dalton Grandstaff if we could.”
In Superintendent Shorter’s report, he also mentioned that former Wastewater Foreman Waylon Burke has been doing well since he transferred over to the Electric Department about a month ago. He said that Burke and Grandstaff will attend journeyman training together.
Additionally, Wastewater Foreman Barry Day mentioned that interviews were conducted last week for an open position at the Water and Wastewater Departments.
On the behalf of himself and Water Superintendent Jeremy Beckner, Day recommended hiring Evan Howatt. He mentioned that the applicant had a number of qualifications that made him stand out.
Day stated, “He worked for Weaver and Fox [Brothers Excavating] so he knows how to run some equipment, he was in the military and ran some equipment in the military and he worked for a septic company previously. So he seems to be pretty knowledgeable and seems like he’d be a pretty good fit.”
Day added that the applicant already possesses necessary certification and pending pre-employment screenings, he’d be ready to go. He noted that Howatt would be acting in a “floater” position for now. Part of his training will require him to learn the various aspects of working with both the Water and Wastewater Departments.
The Town Council members unanimously approved both recommendations.
