Winamac Park Manager Asks if Placement of Potential Splash Pad Will Interfere With Current Atmosphere

The placement of the potential splash pad for the Winamac Town Park was discussed when park board members met last Thursday.

Park Manager Dave DeLorenzo mentioned that he was recently thinking about the fact that as it stands, the park has a peaceful kind of environment that is ideal for walking and sitting. He asked board members if they had considered possible disruptions when they proposed installing the splash pad in the center of the park.

DeLorenzo told members, “What hit me was we have a lot of reunions down there and some of the reunions are possibly without young children.” He asked, “In a nutshell, do we want to put a loud, active, somewhat noisy splash pad right in the middle of our park?”

Park Board President Courtney Poor thanked DeLorenzo for bringing the matter up and recognized that those are valid concerns.

However, he said that while it may upset some people, you can’t make everybody happy. He added that a centralized location near the playground equipment and shelters seems like it would be the best place for the splash pad. The other members of the board agreed with that sentiment.

Additionally, members noted that there are pavilions further away from that location that could still be rented out to people who don’t want to host their events near the splash pad.
