Friends of the Panhandle Pathway Rep Thanks Winamac Town Council

A representative from the Friends of the Panhandle Pathway came before the Winamac Town Council on Monday to discuss an event that took place earlier this month.

John Bawcum shared some details about the “Tippecanoe and Bicycles Too” event that occurred on Saturday, August 4th.

He noted that they had 75 participants overall, with lots of local bicyclists as well as some travelers from out of town including people from South Bend and Chicago.

Bawcum said there was really nice weather and though it was a hot day, everyone seemed to do well and no health complications were reported. He explained that riders didn’t have to go the whole way but they had the option to do the full ride.

“The longest route 65 miles and we had 35 of those riders do the long route.” He continued, “The four rest stops along the ride were Royal Center, Kenneth, down in Buffalo at the fire station down there and the last stop was the new Gillsinger Museum in Pulaski, which was very popular.”

Bawcum extended his gratitude to the council members for allowing the Friends of the Panhandle Pathway to utilize some of the town’s facilities.

He told members, “I just wanted to stop by and say thank you for letting us use the depot and the parking lot and the new shelter and restrooms. We got real good comments about the shelter and restrooms, so thank you very much we appreciate that.”

He added that after the ride, the participants enjoyed food and drinks at some local establishments including Tippy’s and One Eyed Jack’s.
