The identity of a body found following a vehicle fire in rural Grovertown on Aug. 8 has been released.
Emergency responders were called to the scene in the 9500 East block of 250 North in the Grovertown area where they found the burning vehicle in the woods behind a residence. A body was found inside the car shortly before midnight, but it could not be immediately identified. According to the Starke County Sheriff’s Department, during an autopsy a DNA sample from the victim and a DNA sample from a piece of clothing were tested to determine a positive identification.
Starke County Coroner Dannie Hoffer, Jr. said the results of the DNA test found that it was Hamlet resident, 68-year-old Euleta Blair, who perished.
Several questions remain in the investigation including the cause of the fire and Blair’s manner and cause of death. Hoffer said the toxicology results will come back in a few weeks. The Starke County Coroner’s Office, Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office, and the Starke County Sheriff’s Department remain active in the investigation.
