Hamlet Officials Urge Residents Not to Flush Wipes Down the Toilet

Don’t flush wipes down the toilet. That’s the message Hamlet officials shared during last week’s town council meeting. “There’s the baby wipes and the furniture polish wipes and the Clorox wipes. All that stuff is going down the toilets,” said Water and Street Superintendent Fred Rowe.

He said those wipes are causing a lot of problems by the time they reach the sewer plant. “They’re flushable, sure – you could flush an apple, just about – but they’re not biodegradable. They don’t go away.”

Residents are reminded not to flush wipes of any kind.
