Knox City Council members approved a minor amendment to the employee handbook when they met Tuesday evening.
Mayor Dennis Estok explained that a few words were stricken from the City’s sick leave policy in order to clear up some confusion.
There is a section in the policy which mentions that department heads and elected officials reserve the right to request a physician’s written certification of an illness for any absence of at least one day in length.
However, there is also a section that allows employees to take sick days in half-day increments. In order to ensure that officials could still request a physician’s note for half days, the language was adjusted so it no longer states that the absence has to be one full day.
Clerk-Treasurer Jeff Houston added that supervisors typically only require an employee to provide proof if they suspect the person is attempting to abuse the system.
