The number of school fundraisers is drawing concerns from a Knox School Board member. Wendy McIntire called on school officials last week to think about the difference between wants and needs, before setting out to raise money.
“I just ask that when teams and groups or whoever are doing all these fundraisers, that there is purposes,” said McIntire. I mean, you see some of them on there, and it’s overkill for some of these and it’s a lot. It’s a lot for our community to do. It’s a lot for our kids to do.”
Administrators pointed out that the purpose of a given fundraiser is already supposed to be included on the request form.
Preliminary lists of fundraisers and field trips for the school year were unanimously approved during last week’s school board meeting. Board members noticed that a couple usual field trips were missing, leading to concerns that they would have to be brought back for approval later.
