Pulaski County has gotten $150,000 from NIPSCO, as compensation for the wear and tear on county roads caused by recent power line construction. The construction of NIPSCO’s Reynolds-Topeka Line brought large trucks and heavy machinery onto the county’s roads.
A road use agreement was put in place before work began, but Highway Superintendent Terry Ruff told the county commissioners last week that it took some negotiation to come up with the final compensation figure.
“At one time, we threw $163,000 at them, and they come up with $101,000. So we went back and forth, and we ended up settling for $150,000, so I don’t know if you’re all on the same page there or not,” commented Ruff. (Locke: Good job.) “I wanted to let you know on that. We thought we could live with that. That’s what we all discussed, I guess.”
Ruff added that the county hadn’t officially released a $1 million bond on the project to NIPSCO yet.
Meanwhile, he said the county received just over $4,100, after selling some old culverts and used tires at Olson Auctions.
