A Valparaiso man died in a two-vehicle accident Wednesday night at the intersection of U.S. 6 and County Road 400 W. in rural Noble Township.
According to La Porte County Police, 20-year-old Zachary Holland, of Valparaiso, was traveling north on County Road 400 W. in his 2005 GMC Envoy when he reportedly failed to stop at a stop sign and was struck by a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado driven by 50-year-old Lewis K. O’Brien, of Westville, who was traveling east on U.S. 6.
Holland was pronounced dead at the scene, police say. O’Brien complained of pain in the upper body area but refused treatment at the scene.
Police believe that alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
The La Porte County Sheriff’s Department was assisted at the scene by the Westville Police Department, Noble Township Volunteer Fire Department, La Porte County EMS, and the La Porte County Coroner’s Office.
