A new student pickup procedure is proving to be successful for Knox Elementary School. Principal Michelle Tarnow told the school board last week that the new system is working “beautifully.” She said that on a typical day, the school is able to handle about 100 cars in roughly 14 minutes.
Under the system, family members are given tags to place on their rear-view mirrors, while students have tags on their backpacks with corresponding numbers. Students are then sent out in order as family members arrive to pick them up. Tarnow reported that as of last week, 297 families now have pickup tickets. Additionally, the new procedure has dramatically reduced the number of students walking to neighboring parking lots to get picked up.
Tarnow also thanked Traffic Control Specialists for donating new traffic cones, staff members for volunteering their time to help direct the process, and families for their support and patience. She added that she’s gotten a lot of positive feedback about the new system.
