North Judson Town Council Covers Preliminary Cost Estimate for Norwayne Field Splash Pad

North Judson Town Council members held a preliminary discussion about financing for the proposed splash pad installation at Norwayne Field when they met on Tuesday.

Since there seems to be a general consensus amongst community members and town representatives that this is a positive project to pursue, Councilman James Young said he’s been coordinating with Bill Smith from Vortex Aquatic Structures about developing a plan.

Councilman Young said he told Smith the Town is looking to spend approximately $60,000 or less for the installation of the recreational water feature. He explained that Smith plans to attend the next meeting where he will have some conceptual design plans along with an estimated turnkey installation price for the council to consider.

Clerk-Treasurer Andrew Rowe noted that $60,000 has been listed in the capital expenses portion of the budget for 2019.

Young mentioned that after speaking with Town Superintendent Marshall Horstmann, they realized they can also significantly cut costs on this project by utilizing the town’s utility crews for some of the concrete work that will need to be done at the site.

Superintendent Horstmann added that they should develop a design plan with expansion in mind so that if they do ever want to make it bigger, they won’t have to tear it all up to do so.
