Starke County officials will soon have a chance to show off the recent improvements to the County Forest. The County Highway Department recently upgraded the old access trail into a gravel road with a 10-to-12-car parking lot.
The work was funded by a $15,000 grant from the Hardesty Memorial Endowment Fund. On top of that, a native plant garden has been planted in the middle of the new parking area, with money from the Forest Fund.
This week, the Starke County Park Board scheduled a ribbon-cutting ceremony for Wednesday, October 3, but Auditor Kay Chaffins now says it will likely have to be rescheduled, and a new date will be announced soon.
In addition to the park board, representatives from the Hardesty Fund, the Starke County Community Foundation, and the county commissioners will be among those invited to take part in next month’s ribbon cutting. The Starke County Forest is located at 10655 East Division Road.
