A portion of the street print project in Knox will be done this year, but officials will have to wait a bit longer before the city’s emblem is added.
Back in June, city council members cast a unanimous vote to move forward with a project that would allow the company Ennis-Flint to install a street print of the city’s logo and designed crosswalks at the intersection of Lake and Main streets.
At last Tuesday’s Knox City Council meeting, Councilwoman Bertha Blue asked when the project would commence. Mayor Dennis Estok said that the crosswalks can be done this year but since they didn’t finalize the center design by a certain time, the city’s logo won’t be put on until later. The exact dates were not provided for either portion of the project.
Councilman Don Kring asked if they wanted to hold off and wait for the entire project to be done at once so one portion wasn’t more faded than the other. The mayor noted that he already signed the paperwork to have the first part done and to get the second part completed as soon as possible. Since the company has quite a few other projects to take care of first, that won’t be any time in the immediate future.
Additionally, in reference to Councilman Kring’s concerns, the company’s representatives previously told the mayor the print work can last more than 10 years without fading or coming off so having some time between installations shouldn’t have much of an impact on the design.
This street print project is one that appears in the city’s comprehensive plan that was created in 2015. It will be discussed more in future meetings.
