Enrollment is down at Knox Community Schools. An official count of 1,793.37 students was recorded during last month’s count day.
That’s a decrease of 50 students from last September, according to Superintendent Dr. William Reichhart. He told the school board Tuesday that most of the students who left moved out-of-state, while about seven who lived in other nearby school districts transferred back to their local schools.
But Reichhart said Knox continues to benefit from out-of-district enrollment, with 189 out-of-district students currently attending. He added that the school corporation will still be able to maintain a balanced budget, with the number of students enrolled.
Over the past few years, Knox Community Schools’ enrollment has been a bit of a roller coaster, according to Reichhart. He said the overall number of students remained stable during the course of last school year, with the drop taking place over the summer.
Board member Kirk Bennett asked if school officials had any population numbers for the county, to have an idea of what to expect going forward. Reichhart said he would do some research.
