The Starke County Community Foundation has announced the winner of its 2018 James R. Hardesty Leadership in Philanthropy Award. Barbara McLaughlin was presented with the award during last week’s Community Impact Reception.
McLaughlin is one of the foundation’s founders, according to a Community Foundation press release. She also volunteers at many organizations. McLaughlin says the Community Foundation is the single thing she is most proud of. As part of the award, McLaughlin was given a $500 gift, which she donated to the McLaughlin-Leonard Family Community Fund.
McLaughlin was one of a few people honored during last week’s reception. Jennifer Gappa was thanked for her six years of service as Starke County Community Foundation president, while Gene Ladd was recognized for his 12 years of service as a foundation board member. The community foundation says it’s benefited greatly from Ladd’s financial expertise, noting that he’s also served on the foundation’s finance committee and the Northern Indiana Community Foundation Board.
