A strategic plan was presented to the Eastern Pulaski School Board members.
High School Assistant Principal Dr. Gene Sweeney said there were 26 members of the committee, including students and community members, who spent several hours putting together the proposed plan. It includes beliefs, a mission statement, parameters, objectives, and strategies.
“The mission of the Eastern Pulaski Community School Corporation that we are recommending to you is to create a safe, compassionate, and nurturing learning environment where students are given individual attention in their pursuit of knowledge, self-discipline, understanding, and self-confidence and are inspired to become their best version of themselves,” stated Dr. Sweeney.
The plan also attempts to bridge the gap between the school and the school community to include involvement to help mold a preferred future for the schools. An annual survey of the community will be issued regarding the pieces of the plan to ensure school officials are adhering to the plan. Dr. Sweeney said some of those pieces are included in the objectives portion of the proposed strategic plan.
“We will annually increase the percentage of students performing at or above grade level. We will annually increase the percentage of favorable survey responses received regarding the effectiveness of school district communication. We will annually increase academic offerings by a minimum of three classes to ensure that students have a variety of courses to meet their college/career readiness needs. We will annually increase the student attendance rate by a one-half percent.”
Those objectives will be met with strategies that call for action in support of the “Winamac Way”.
The school board members took the plan under advisement.
